The Role of Water and Sanitation in Achieving the SDGs
Evening reception on 24 March, UN Headquarters New York
On the occasion of the World Water Day 2015, as well as the March sessions of the intergovernmental negotiations process around the Post-2015 Development Agenda, the Pemanent Missions of Sweden and the Republic of Benin to the United Nations, organize an evening reception on the role of water and sanitation in achieving the SDGs.
The reception is co-organized with UN-Water, the Global Poverty Project, WaterAid and SIWI with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, the World Bank, UNICEF, WSSCC, the UNF and UNSGAB, and aims to remind everyone that water and sanitation are at the center of the post-2015 development agenda.
More specifically, the objectives of the reception include:
- Promote the outcomes of World Water Day
- Ensure that Member States have full understanding of how significant the implementation of Goal 6 is for the success of the whole SDG framework.
- Increase the number of Member States who actively champion Goal 6 within the Intergovernmental Negotiations and state to state discussions.
- Orally brief Member State staff on the available indicators for the targets and provide printed materials to solidify knowledge.
