Committee change the community

26.01.2016

“Local Government staff came to our community and used a set of demonstrations which really made us visualise the link between faeces and disease. It was really quite shocking” he laughs.  “But it really made us see that everyone needed to work together and make a drastic change, and as a business man, I wanted to help lead this.” says Sunanka, a businessman living in northeastern Nigeria. Sunanka, along with 14 other town members volunteered to help support the initiative by forming a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Committee.   Sunanka’s role involves ensuring the affordable supply of sanitation products.  Other members’ roles include a treasurer, secretary, handpump maintenance, community mobilization officers and hygiene promoters.
